"Spring Forward" with Water Safety Tips

3/13/2016 (Permalink)

It's time to "Spring Forward" and leave winter behind! Although spring showers may be great for the flowers getting ready to bloom, they can cause trouble for your property. Luckily, SERVPRO Jamestown/Olean is the local expert in handling any water damage.

Once a SERVPRO official learns of the damage, communication with the property owner and the SERVPRO crew immediately occurs in order to plan the quickest way to get the property looking "Like it Never Even Happened."

Before the SERVPRO crew arrives, here are a few simple tips you should keep in mind:

  • If the source of water is still leaking, identify the source and stop it if you can
  • If the water is coming from a burst or leaking pipe, turn off the water at the source
  • If the water is coming through the roof or broken windows, try to cover them to prevent further damage
  • Move wet items to drier areas
  • Place aluminum foil coasters or wood blocks between furniture legs and wet carpeting
  • Save damaged items and any parts you may need to replace - your claims representative may want to inspect them
  • Do not use electrical equipment or appliances while standing on wet carpet or floors
  • To document the damage, make a list of the temporary repairs you make and take pictures
  • Make sure to save your receipts
  • To report any water damage simply call (716) 338-4901 and for more safety tips and info about about your local SERVPRO Jamestown/Olean, visit our website
